چکیده

Based on the experimental data from Weninger, Putterman, and Barber, Phys. Rev. E 54, R2205 ~1996!, we offer an alternative interpretation of their experimental results. A model of sonoluminescing bubble which demonstrates that the electromagnetic radiation originates from two sources: the isotropic black body or bremsstrahlung emitting core and dipole radiation-emitting shell of accelerated electrons driven by the liquidbubble interface is outlined. @S1063-651X~97!50712-4#

Calculated Pulse Widths and Spectra of a Single Sonoluminescing Bubble

A sonoluminescing bubble has been modeled as a thermally conducting, partially ionized, two-component plasma. The model shows that the measured picosecond pulse widths are due to electron conduction and the rapidly changing opacity of the plasma and that these mechanisms are also responsible for the absence of an “afterglow” subsequent to the sonoluminescence flash while the hot bubble expands ...

Computed Spectral and Temporal Emissions from a Sonoluminescing Bubble

A sonoluminescing bubble has been modeled as a thermally conducting, partially ionized, two-component radiating plasma. The recent measurements of 100~s pulse widths by Gompf et al. are useful for constructing a consistent plasma thermal conduction model that refines our previous model. Normal thermal conduction in the gas and liquid, vapor pressure, and temperature-dependent surface tension ar...

Acoustical stability of a sonoluminescing bubble.

In the parameter region for sonoluminescence of a single levitated bubble in a water-filled resonator it is observed that the bubble may have an enormous spatial stability leaving it "pinned" in the fluid and allowing it to emit light pulses of picosecond accuracy. We report here observations of a complex harmonic structure in the acoustic field surrounding a sonoluminescing bubble. We show tha...

Theory of light emission in sonoluminescence as thermal radiation.

Based on the model proposed by Hilgenfeldt [Nature (London) 398, 401 (1999)], we present here a comprehensive theory of thermal radiation in single-bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL). We first invoke the generalized Kirchhoff's law to obtain the thermal emissivity from the absorption cross section of a multilayered sphere (MLS). A sonoluminescing bubble, whose internal structure is determined from ...

Light scattering measurements of the repetitive supersonic implosion of a sonoluminescing bubble.

Light scattering is used to measure the dynamics of the repetitive collapse of a sonoluminescing bubble of gas trapped in water. It is found that the surface of the bubble is collapsing with a supersonic velocity at about the time of light emission which in turn precedes the minimum bubble radius by about 0.03% of the period of the acoustic drive. These observations suggest that the shedding of...
